Alcuni quotidiani statunitensi fanno polemica su Obama perché dopo l'annuncio della morte di Foley è andato a giocare a golf. Durante la conferenza stampa a Martha's Vineyard ha detto di essere "affranto" e che l'uccisione del reporter "ha sconvolto il mondo". Ma poi, dopo una "dichiarazione velocissima" è andato sul green della villa dove si trova in vacanza con la famiglia.
Il New York Post non è l'unico a fare polemica. La fa anche Dick Cheney, vicepresidente degli Stati Uniti nell'era George W. Bush. Che alla stampa dice: "Obama preferisce stare sul campo da golf che nella Situation Room, la sala della Casa Bianca in cui si gestiscono le crisi:

C'è poi chi ha ribattezzato la crisi in Iraq come la "Golf War" di Obama, un gioco di parole tra guerra del golfo e golf. E su twitter c'è già l'hashtag #Golfwar:

Obama ha giocato con l'ex star dei Miami Heat, Alonzo Mourning, con l'investitore Glenn Hutchins, e con un amico di vecchia data, Cy Walker, ha fatto sapere la Casa Bianca. Il presidente degli Stati Uniti rientrerà a Washington alla fine di questa settimana.
